I got the shock of my life at the grocery store this morning.  A lot of things cost less in Mexico than they do at home--cucumbers, peppers, onions, bananas, bus rides...and a lot of things cost about the same--milk, eggs, newspapers, toilet paper and so forth.  But it is not often that you find something that costs SIX TIMES in Mexico what it costs in the US.  So imagine my surprise when I went to the store to buy a pound of coffee and noticed that the coffee filters cost almost ten dollars for a hundred!  It's a good thing I brought my own coffee filters along with me, isn't it?

This afternoon I went to visit a well-known baroque-style church--San Cayetano--just outside of town.  The carvings and whatnot are very elaborate and impressive.  It was built by the "Count of Valenciana" with money from the mines around here and completed in 1766 or so.

The old guy in the picture did not want to trade hats with me.

Tuve la sorpresa de mi vida en el supermercado de esta mañana. Muchas de las cosas cuestan menos en México que lo hacen en casa - pepinos, pimientos, cebollas, plátanos, viajes en autobús ... y un montón de cosas cuestan casi lo mismo - la leche, los huevos, periódicos, papel higiénico, etc . Pero no es a menudo que usted encuentra algo que cuesta seis veces en México lo que cuesta en los EE.UU.. Así que imaginen mi sorpresa cuando fui a la tienda a comprar una libra de café y se dio cuenta que los filtros de café cuesta casi diez dólares por cien! Es algo bueno que traje mi propia filtros de café junto a mí, ¿no?
Esta tarde fui a visitar una iglesia conocida de estilo barroco - San Cayetano - a las afueras de la ciudad. Las tallas y otras cosas son muy elaborada e impresionante. Fue construido por el "Conde de Valenciana" con el dinero de las minas por aquí y terminó en 1766 más o menos.
