yucatan ruins
Here are some copies of postcards from the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. There are lots and lots of Mayan ruins located here. Also a fort at Bacalar, built for protection from Pirates.
orchids
Here are postcards from the orchid conservatory in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico. Morelia is a big city with a very well-preserved colonial center. It's about maybe 150 miles west of Mexico City.
more postcards
Well, I have had enpough bad experiences with cpmputers breaking down and, consequently, my photos being lost, that I have taken the decision to just put all photos (ones I have left, at any rate) on the Viajes fel jubilado website. The photos can, therefore be accessed no matter what happens with the computer, whether it breaks down or is stolen or whatever. So, today I begin. Here are four postcards that were given to me by the people at the tourism office in Lagos de Moreno, a medium sized city of about 150,000 located near Aguascalientes and about 200 miles northwest of Mexico City.

April 17
Here's what things looked like about a month ago. And now it is supposed to snow again tomorrow or overnight.
Anyway, I got a new refurbished Gateway laptop and am fooling around with it. I am going to make sure I save all of my future fotos on the Internet or somewhere so if the computer breaks or is stolen or lost, that I will still have my fotos.
The RV still is not fixed and I am going to have to go to Nashville to bring it home, but I don't know when.

update
I got home to Michigan late Wednesday, March 15th. The weather was nice and warm on Thursday and Friday, a bit colder with rain on Saturday. But Sunday it was warm enough for me to help my son replace the brake pads and rotors on his car.
Also, I have ordered a new range, or cooktop, for the kitchen. My wife and son had an appliance repairman come to the house over the winter and he said that the old one should be replaced. It had been leaking slightly for a few years and you could smell it every once in a while, but I did not think it was a big problem yet. But, anyhow, we are going to get a new one. I think I found a pretty good deal on the internet and it will fit in the existing hole in the kitchen counter.
We got more snow starting Monday and now it has kind of crusted over with ice. The temperature is just about right for things to melt in the daytime and freeze over again at night, so this can create slippery conditions, of course, on the roads and sidewalks.
My motorhome is still in Nashville and I have no idea when the repairs will be completed. The estimate is that it will cost about ten thousand dollars to fix it. I am glad the accident happened in the United States and close to home (well, only 600 miles) instead of somewhere that the insurance business might have been more complicated.
I was going toinclude pictures of the RV and the snow, but cannot find the little cord that will transfer the photos from the camera to the computer. The cord moght still be in Nashville! Anyway, I will try to include a pic of the new stovetop.

Desastre
I am in a super-8 motel in Nashville, Tennessee. Early this afternoon I was driving east on the freeway, in the right-hand lane, at about sixty miles per hour, when a crazy woman decided to enter the highway right in front of me (about thirty feet in front of mr) while traveling at two miles per hour.
I applied my brakes as soon as I saw her, but of course could not stop in time and now my radiator and fan are all messed up. It took a while to find a place that could do the repairs and by the time I called my insurance company and we found a repair shop--the repair shop was closed. In fact, it may be the case that they will not be able to start work on my vehicle until next week. there are still some details that must be decided tomorrow. Such as who will be able to do the work and how long it might take and so forth.
It appears now as if I may have to rent a car to get back home and then return to Nashville some time in the future (two weeks? three?) to recover my vehicle.
I have never in my life seen anyone do such a stupid thing in an automobile as this woman did!

in the US
i just crossed the border and am in LAREDO texas. I THINK i screwed up by not stopping at the mexican vehicle place. LAST YEAR THEY WERE RIGHT BY THE HIGHWAY AND i had to stop and turn over some documents, but this year they did not ask for anything, did not look at or stamp mypassport or go through any kind od routine concerning the vehicle. I KEPT THINKING THAT MAYBE THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT FARTHER ALONG AND BEFOR i KNew it I WAS BACK IN THE us. (sonething is wrong with the capital letters on my computer)
But anyway the only thing the Mexicans did was send a soldier inside to look at the RV. So I guess when I get back to Michigan I will contact the nearest Mexican consulate and try to get things straightened out. As far as their records are concerned, I am probably still in Mexico!

carnaval
I drove to Yuriria on Tuesday, but my friend Carlos the baker did not show up for work so I did not see him. But I have a key to the bakery, so I left his chef hat on the counter with a note that I hope to see him next year.
There was a small Carnaval celebration in Yuriria. This is, of course the party that takes place immediatly before the Lenten season (Cuaresema). The kids all had a bunch of egg-shaped things filled with confetti and were breaking them on each others heads. There was also a Carnaval King and princesses or Queens and a ceremony where the teenagers lit torches and burned a coffin while dancing around it in a circle.
I am now in Zacatecas, just a days drive from the Texas border. I might stay here for about a week. My refrigerator has mysteriously begun working again, I need to buy bulbs for my headlights, and I am going to see if the vacuum can be repaired. I also need to get a haircut.
