Well, I thought about buying this skull and horns and having it mounted on the hood of my vehicle. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen anything like that, but then I don’t think folks in Michigan decorated their Cadillacs that way even when I was a kid.
The last couple of hundred miles on the way to Zacatecas, my low coolant light would blink on for just a few seconds as I accelerated from a stop. The fluid was just a little bit low, I guess, and when it sloshed around it would trigger the sensor. I added about two quarts of water and drove to the Dodge dealer here, who did a pressure test and didn’t detect any leaks. I bought a gallon of coolant to have with me if it happens again. I think it was just the result of driving 2100 miles in four days.
Here is a picture of a pedestrian overpass built way out in the middle of nowhere. The Mexican highway department likes to waste money just like we do in the United States! Here is a photo of an example from Illinois or Missouri. Mile-markers are not good enough anymore, it seems. Someone has decided that we need signs erected every two-tenths of a mile! I think the idea must be that when people break down and call a tow truck on their cellphone, they should not have to be inconvenienced by having to get out of their car to figure out where they are. (I still don’t have a cellphone, so if I break down I will have to walk to the nearest farmhouse and knock on the door, just like I did forty years ago.)
Today I found a welding shop and had them build me a bicycle rack. The guy was kind of reluctant to tell me how much money he wanted, so I took the initiative and offered 300 peso—about $25. He seemed quite happy with that, and I am pleased, too, because the one I looked at back in Michigan was about $150.
